Tribal journalists hold rally, demand security
PESHAWAR, 01 December: Journalists from the tribal areas rallied here on Tuesday demanding protection for them.
The rally, which was attended by a large number of tribal
journalists, marched from Peshawar Press Club to Governor House. Media
persons from the settled districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including
Peshawar also participated in the rally.
Speaking on the occasion officer bearers of the journalists’
association said that quite a few of their colleagues were killed while
performing duties in the tribal areas while many others were given
threats from different sides.
They also demanded financial assistance to the families of their slain colleagues who were killed in the line of duty.
“Working in tribal areas for us has been made impossible as we cannot
go there for reporting due to insecurity. We demand from the government
to provide us protection. And at the same time, we also appeal to
national and international bodies of media persons to raise their voice
for our protection,” remarked a tribal journalist while talking to TNN.
