All displaced people of Kurram Agency return home

SADDA, 30 April: The process of repatriation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Kurram Agency has been completed and Durrani camp, which accommodated displaced people, has been closed.

The FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) Coordinator for Kurram Agency, Mujahid Turi told TNN on Saturday that about 5,000 displaced people were residing in Durrani camp in 2011-12 and the number was reduced to about 600 this year. He said all the remaining IDPs returned to their areas on Friday. He said the last phase of repatriation started on 20 April which will continue till 9 May.

The coordinator said 10,276 displaced families have returned to their native areas in Kurram who were given Rs10,000 transport charges and Rs25,000 financial assistance. He said tents will also be given to people whose houses have been damaged completely.

“As many as 10,276 displaced families have returned to Kurram so far and 14,432 people have arrived there. Every displaced family is receiving Rs10,000 through Mobicash and Rs25,000 through ATM cards,” he saidhttp://www.radiotnn.com/all-displaced-people-of-kurram-agency-return-home/

Kurram political admin imposes restrictions on three tribes for not handing over wanted criminals  

PARACHINAAR, 23 April: The political administration of Kurram Agency has imposed restrictions of obtaining Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), domicile certificates and passports on people belonging to three tribes as penalty for not handing over wanted criminals to the administration.

According to officials of the political administration a commercial centre Usmania plaza was razed to the ground in Parachinar a few days back.

The officials added that the local tribes Balishkhel, Mahora and Sadi Bangash were asked to handed accused Iqbal Hussain and Wajahat Hussain but they did not comply the orders.

The administration has also suspended the incentives of the three tribes. Officials maintained that under the collective responsibility clauses of the FCR, the administration would soon start arresting people of the three tribes

Last phase of Kurram IDPs’ repatriation begins

SADDA, 20 April: The last phase of the repatriation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Kurram Agency got underway on Wednesday.

A ceremony in this connection was organised at Durrani Camp in Sadda which was attended by Political Agent Kurram Ikramullah, Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) officials and local elders.

The FDMA head for Kurram Agency, Mujahid Turi said on the occasion that 13,703 IDPs will be repatriated to their areas in the last phase, which will continue till 7 May. He said the displaced people of Masoi tribe will be repatriated first, people of Ali Sherzai tribe will be sent back in second phase, Zemasht tribesmen will be sent back in third phase, while people of Para Chamkani tribe will be repatriated in the last phase. He said the IDPs will be given Rs10,000 for transport charges and Rs25,000 in head of IDPs package.

The people going back to their native areas have thanked the government and demanded provision of basic facilities in their area.

“Our area lacks educational institutions due to which our children cannot get education. The government should establish schools in our area,” a tribesman told TNN.

Another tribesman said he is very happy over returning home, but Rs35,000 assistance is not enough. “We appeal to the president, prime minister and governor to enhance the assistance amount,” he said.

The repatriation of Muhammadkhel tribe of South Waziristan also got underway on Wednesday.

One soldier killed, two injured in Kurram blast

SADDA, 22 April: One soldier was killed and two others sustained injuries in a blast near a check post of Frontier Corps (FC) in Kurram Agency on Friday.

Security sources said the incident happened in Bezo Sar, Shaheedano Dhand in the morning. The soldiers were on a routine patrol when an improvised explosive device exploded on them. The injured soldiers were taken to a nearby hospital.

FATA teachers announce to shut schools over not getting upgradation

PESHAWAR, 17 April: The teachers of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) have once again announced to close all the schools in the tribal region over not getting upgradation.

All FATA Teachers Association president Khan Malik Masood told TNN that the tribal teachers had staged a protest demonstration in Islamabad in December last year after which Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch had promised to fulfil their demand by March this year. He said the non-fulfilment of the pledge by the government compelled them to re-launch their protest.

Mr Masood said all the schools in FATA and frontier regions will be closed from Monday and protests will be launched in Peshawar or Islamabad for the rights of teachers.

“There are 24,000 teachers in FATA and 8,000 among them are eligible for upgradation. The teachers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were promoted in 2012, but the teachers of FATA had been deprived of upgradation for unknown reasons. We have decided to shut all the schools in FATA and frontier regions from tomorrow (Monday) and stage protest either in front of KP Governor House or Parliament House in Islamabad,” he said

Momin Khan, head of the association for displaced people, told TNN that the government has not paid them anything for repair of their damaged houses. He said they held several meetings with the officials but no one fulfilled his promise in this regard.

“Officials promised at the time of our return that we will get Rs25,000 and our damaged houses will also be repaired, but we have received nothing as yet. Despite repeated demands, no one is coming forward to help us due to which we are facing many difficulties,” he said.

Meanwhile, FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) Assistant Director Mian Adil said the affectees verified by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will get financial assistance, while non-verified people will not get assistance.

12 militants killed as security forces foil cross border attack in Kurram

SADDA, 7 April: The security forces on Thursday claimed killing 12 militants in a clash in Kurram Agency.

The security forces said about 60 militants from Afghanistan side attacked Mangro Sar check post in Kurram Agency near the Pak-Afghan border on Wednesday night. They said the militants fled after the security forces retaliated.

A search operation was launched in the area after the clash during which the security forces found bodies of 12 militants

City team win volleyball tournament in Kurram

SADDA, 7 April: The City team have won the Aman Volleyball Tournament in Upper Kurram Agency.

In the final match of the tournament at Karakhela ground on Wednesday, City team defeated Borki team 3-2. A large number of spectators came to the ground to watch the match.

Member National Assembly Sajid Hussain Turi, who was chief guest at the concluding ceremony, awarded trophy and Rs15,000 cash prize to the winning team. He also awarded Rs10,000 prize to the runners-up.
