Political administration of Kurram Agency on Thursday distributed Rs37.7 million among families of the Levies and Khasadar force who were killed and injured in acts of terrorism.

In this regard a ceremony was organised in Parachinar where Assistant Political Agent Shahid Ali Khan awarded Rs3 million to each family of 13 officials who lost their lives in terrorism related incidents.

While families of 7 injured people were also given Rs150,000 each.

On this occasion, Shahid Ali Khan told media that more than Rs1 billion had been distributed among those affected by terrorism and natural disaster over the last seven years.

The families of the martyred and injured ones thanked the political administration for acknowledging sacrifices of their loved ones and said more such affectees would also be compensated.

“My brother died in 2015 and now the government has paid compensation to us. I am thankful to the government for recognising the sacrifice of my brother. We will continue to offer sacrifices four our country,” the brother of a martyred soldier said.

The son of a martyred Levies official also thanked the government for honouring his father.

“My father died in 2014. I am thankful to the government for honouring our family,” he said.

PARACHINAR, 07 June: The United Nations has released Rs350 million funds for rehabilitation of recently repatriated displaced people of Kurram tribal agency, an official said here on Tuesday.

Talking to TNN, regional chief of FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) in Kurram, Mujahid Tori said that the fund would be utilized to rebuild homes of the tribesmen, repair damaged schools and health facilities and provision of clean drinking water to the local inhabitants.

A local resident of the area, Gulab Khan was delighted when he learnt about the fund but said it is insufficient. He asked the federal government help the underprivileged tribesmen from its own resources.

“The federal government should also release funds for the IDPs as they have incurred more damages,” he asserted.

Gulab Khan also expressed hopelessness about the transparent utilization of the funds. “In past, many international organizations have released funds for the wellbeing of IDPs but they were not utilized transparently. We demand that these funds should be properly spent,” he added.

SADA, 01 June: Work has been inaugurated on a water supply scheme in Marghan area of the central Kurram agency the other day. The project has been launched jointly by Public Health department and the political administration.

Assistant political agent of central Kurram Wisal Khan laid the foundation stone of the project. Large number of tribal elders and local residents were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion the assistant political agent said the project would benefit at least four hundred families of Marghan, Ali Sherzai and other surrounding areas.

Local resident of the area have welcomed the launching of the project and said they would get water at their doorstep with the completion of the project.

“We are facing great difficulties as we bring water from far flung areas on mules and on heads. Now we are hopeful the problem will be resolved and we will get water at our doorstep,” said a rejoiced tribesman of the area.

According to an official of the local administration, the project will be completed in four months with an estimated cost of Rs16.8million.

PESHAWAR, 01 June: Public transport owners and drivers on Wednesday held a protest demonstration against what they called ‘unjust’ fines by the traffic wardens and increase in driving license fees.

The protesters blocked the Grant Trunk road near the general bus stand and chanted slogans against the provincial government.

They were of the view that the traffic police adopted indifferent attitude with the local transporters and imposed heaving fines on them without any justification. They were also critical of the government policy of not giving extension in the route permits. Besides, the transporters also rejected the raise in driving license fees by the government.

Later, the protesters rallied from the general bus stand to the office of regional transport authority.

Talking to TNN, provincial president of the public transporters association Yar Muhmmad Afridi said the incumbent PTI led provincial government has increased the registration fees of route permits three times during a short span of time.

Calling it an injustice with the transporters, Afridi said they are being mentally tortured by the transport department , adding they would hold a protest demonstration outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly on June 6 against the ‘injustices’ meted out to them. He said the public transport owners would observe a complete strike on that day.

Later, officials of the regional transport authority held talks with the protesting transporters and assured them that a meeting would be convened in next two days to discuss the problems being faced by the transporters.

Due to the protest of the transporters, the GT road remained closed for traffic due to which general people were forced to suffer in hot weather.
