October 31, 2016
SADDA, 31 October: Despite the completion of a water supply scheme in residents of Tari Mangal area of Kurram agency, the local residents are still facing acute shortage of clean drinking water.
According to local tribesmen their women were bringing water on their heads from faraway places. They said that last year the local authorities approved a water supply scheme for the area having a population of more than 400 families.
They however alleged that the contractor did not execute the scheme properly due to which the water pipes had become broken at different places.
“The government had approved Rs2.8 million for the scheme but the contractor Rajab Ali spent only a few lacs rupees and embezzled the rest of the amount,” a tribesman Abdul Wahid alleged.
He added that a tank was constructed in the mountain for the spring water but it was not covered as a result it had become filled with silt and other wastes.
Mustafa, another tribesman demanded of the government to replace the pipe as it was broken at different places thus hamper the flow of water to the villagers. He further demanded that the water tank should also be cleared and covered so that it could not get filled with wastes.
