14 killed as passenger bus hits landmine in Kurram Agency

KURRAM AGENCY: At least 14 persons including a woman and children have been killed, while 10 others injured as passenger bus has hit a landmine in Parachinar area of Kurram Agency. A passenger Bus going from Central Kurram Agency to Lower Kurram Agency, collided a landmine laid by the terrorists near Parachinar area on Tuesday morning, leaving 10 persons including woman and children dead, while several others injured.
The Security Force, law enforcing agencies, rescue teams reached the area and shifted the bodies and injured to Parachinar Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment. The Security Forces cordoned-off the area and gathered evidences.
The injured were provided with medical treatment. The doctors said that five injured are in critical condition. The deceased include woman and children. The death toll is expected to mount. According to ISPR, COAS General Qamar Bajwa took immediate notice of the incident and directed the relevant authorities to shift the injured to CMH Peshawar.
Under the directives of COAS, Special MI-17 Helicopter was also provided to shift the injured to CMH Peshawar.
According to security sources, two employees of population census team are among the injured persons.
Meanwhile, Census workers have been the target of many attacks since the national enumeration exercise kicked off on March 15.
After an attack targeting census workers in Lahore claimed the lives seven people — four army soldiers, an employee of the air force and two other passers-by — and injured 18 others, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa declared that the sixth population and housing census would be completed at all costs.
The latest attack on Monday saw a security official lay down his life while another suffered injuries in the line of duty in Kallag Kolanch, an area near the coastal town of Pasni in Gwadar district. The two personnel were deputed to provide security to a census team.
Meanwhile President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek Insaf Imran Khan, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif along with all political Parties leaders while condemning the terrorist incident, expressed grief and sorrow over loss of precious lives in Kurram landmine blast.
