Families displaced due to sectarian violence resettled
PARACHINAR, 06 February: As many as 170 families dislocated due to sectarian violence in Upper Kurram have been resettled in their native areas, officials said on Saturday.
According to officials of the Kurram political administration these families were forced to leave after sectarian violence erupted in Parachinar seven years back.
“Seven five families dislocated from Jailamai, Chardewar and Saidano Kalay returned to their homes today whereas another 95 families from Mullah Bagh and Yaqubi areas were sent few days back,” an official told TNN.
Following the repatriation of the displaced families, political agent of the agency Nasrullah Khan along with senior security official Col. Umar Malik and Member of National Assembly Sajid Toori visited the area. They met with the local tribesmen and distributed relief items among them.
They urged the tribesmen belonging to both Sunni and Shia communities to restrain from indulging in sectarian violence and live peacefully in future.
The authorities also assured the local tribesmen of construction roads, schools and health facilities in the area.
The local people expressed pleasure over their return but said they had to no homes to live. “We are very happy that peace is established in our area,” said a tribesman. “At the moment we are living in tents as our homes were destroyed during the sectarian fighting. Now we are rebuilding our abodes and hopefully we will build them soon,” the tribesman added.
According to FDMA figures, more than 12000 families were forced to leave their homes after sectarian violence erupted in the area in 2009. The repatriation process was launched in March last year and since then, more than 4500 families have returned to their areas.
