Muharram Security Plan: Mobile Service Suspended In Kurram Agency

Muharram Security Plan: Mobile Service Suspended In Kurram Agency
October 09, 2016
SADDA, 09 October: Stringent security measures have been put in place by the political authorities in Kurram Agency to avert any untoward incident during Muharram, officials said here on Sunday.
Beside further tightening security, the political authorities also suspended mobile service in the agency on Sunday. The mobile phones will remain turned off till the evening of 10th Muharram.
The local residents have been irked by the decision of suspending mobile services for four days. The tribesmen demanded of the administration to restore the service at the earliest.
“In past, the government used to suspend mobile signals on 10th of Muharram only. Now the service has been suspended on 6th Muharram. It will only add to our desperation,” said Asif, a local student.
He added that the tribesmen were already denied other rights. “There are no health facilities in Fata and people of the area usually shift their patients to Peshawar, Kohat and Hangu. They need to communicate with their families. How they will contact with each other if there are no phone signals,” he questioned.
Another tribesman also expressed resentment over the suspension of the service saying, large number of tribesmen are working jobs in foreign countries and they would face problems in communication with their families back home.
He said the students staying in hostels in other cities would also find it difficult to remain in contact with their family members.
“The government should immediately restore the service and for security reasons, they should keep it suspended for a few hours only on 10th of Muharram, he remarked.
Meanwhile, tribesmen in central Kurram have raised a 50-member tribal force to help the security forces maintain law and order situation in the area.
